Active Range of Motion (AROM) External Rotation is a key movement for shoulder rehab, especially following injury or surgery. This exercise strengthens the rotator cuff and helps restore functional mobility—one slow, controlled rep at a time.
How to Do AROM External Rotation
Step 1: Setup
Stand or sit tall with a rolled-up towel between your elbow and torso to support proper alignment.
Step 2: Position
Keep your elbow bent at 90° and your wrist in a neutral position.
Step 3: Outward Rotation
Slowly rotate your arm outward, moving your hand away from your body while keeping your elbow pinned to your side.
Step 4: Controlled Return
Go to your comfortable range, then return to the start position with control.
Step 5: Key Cues
- Don’t let your elbow lift or shift—the towel helps you stay in place.
- Keep the movement slow and steady for maximum control and benefit.
This is a foundational movement for building shoulder strength and stability—great for early rehab or as part of a warm-up routine.
